Here are five simple things you can do today to increase your fuel efficiency every day:

1.     Ensure your tires are properly inflated. Check your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommended air pressure levels for your tires. Underinflated tires aren’t just dangerous; they’re a drag on your wallet. Research shows that underinflated tires can cause fuel economy to decrease by as much as 25%.
2.     Clean up. Extra weight in your vehicle equals poor fuel economy. If you’re hauling heavy equipment or unnecessary junk in your trunk, remove it unless you absolutely need it. For every 250 pounds of extra weight in your vehicle, you can lose up to one mile per gallon.
3.     Don’t price hunt. You may think you’re making the smart choice by driving around and shopping for the lowest gas prices in your community. The truth is that going even one extra mile out of your way to save five cents per gallon isn’t cost effective in most cases.
